Best console for GTA 6 in India: PS5, PS5 Pro or Xbox?

If you're buying a console in India for GTA 6, you have fewer real options than the internet suggests. It's coming to PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X and S on 19 November 2026. Not PS4, not Xbox One, and not PC, at least not yet.

Then India narrows it again. Sony has never officially launched the PS5 Pro here, and when I checked on 4 October, I couldn't find an Xbox Series X on sale from any major Indian retailer.

The consoles that can run it, and what they cost here

PS5 prices are from Sony's India store, ShopAtSC, on 4 October 2026. Both had gone up a lot in 2026: the disc model was ₹54,990 until late July.

Xbox prices are messier. Microsoft raised Xbox prices worldwide from 1 August 2026 but hadn't published new Indian prices when I checked. The one officially imported Series S listing I found still showed the old ₹34,990 MRP and was out of stock. The Series S consoles actually in stock were third-party imports at ₹57,000 to ₹60,000, with only the seller's own warranty.

What we know about how GTA 6 runs

Not much is official yet, so let's be precise about what is and isn't confirmed.

• 30 frames per second. At a preview event in August 2026, Rockstar's head of development reportedly said the console versions were running at 30fps and that a 60fps option hadn't been decided. That came from journalists who were there, not from a Rockstar announcement.
• PS5 Pro Enhanced. The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as enhanced for PS5 Pro, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what that enhancement is. It could mean a sharper image, steadier performance, or both.
• The footage you've seen is a base PS5. Rockstar's trailers and the August gameplay showcase were captured on a standard PS5.
• What the analysts think. Digital Foundry, who study game performance frame by frame, called a 60fps console version extremely unlikely, and suggested a 30fps or 40fps mode was more plausible on PS5 Pro. That's expert analysis, not a promise.

So does the Pro matter for GTA 6?

Probably a little, in image quality. Not in the way most people hope. If GTA 6 is 30fps on every console, the Pro's advantage is a cleaner picture, not a smoother one.

PS5 Digital or PS5 with a disc drive?

For GTA 6 alone, the Digital Edition is the better buy. Here's why.

GTA 6 has no disc. The boxed copy sold in India holds a download code, so a disc drive does nothing for it. On the disc model, you'd still be downloading GTA 6 from the PlayStation Store.

The disc drive only earns its ₹5,000 on other games. If you plan to buy used discs and sell them back when you finish, the disc model pays for itself within a couple of games. I do the full sum in PS5 disc vs digital. If GTA 6 is most of what you'll play, save the ₹5,000.

One more thing in the Digital Edition's favour: the PS5 Digital can take Sony's add-on disc drive later, if you change your mind. It isn't officially sold in India, though, and marketplace prices were ₹12,000 to ₹13,000 in early October, so don't plan on that.

Should you import a PS5 Pro?

I wouldn't, not for GTA 6.

• It isn't officially sold in India. Sony originally held it back because its Wi-Fi uses a band India hadn't allowed. It appeared on India's BIS certification database in March 2026, but Sony hasn't announced a launch.
• Imports cost far more. Reports in mid-2026 put imported units at anywhere from ₹80,000 to over ₹1,00,000, before the July price rises.
• No Indian warranty. An imported console comes with whatever the seller offers, not Sony India's cover.
• The gain is unknown. Nobody has said what the Pro does for GTA 6 specifically.

If Sony launches the Pro in India before November, that changes. Until then, a standard PS5 runs the same game at what's reportedly the same frame rate, with a warranty, for a lot less.

What about Xbox?

GTA 6 is coming to Xbox Series X and Series S on the same day, at the same price as PS5: ₹5,999 for Standard and ₹7,499 for Ultimate on the Xbox Store in India.

Xbox has one real advantage for GTA 6. If you buy the Standard Edition and later want the Ultimate extras, the ₹1,500 upgrade is on sale on Xbox now. On the PlayStation Store it wasn't available to buy yet on 4 October. More in GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate.

The problem is buying the console. I couldn't find an Xbox Series X on sale at Flipkart or Amazon.in on 4 October, and the Series S units in stock were imports at nearly the price of a PS5. If you can find a Series X at a sensible price from an authorised seller, it's a fine machine for GTA 6. The Series S is the weakest console GTA 6 supports, and nothing has been said about how it runs there.

Storage and subscriptions

Two smaller things worth knowing before you buy.

• Storage. Rockstar hasn't published GTA 6's install size, and the big numbers floating around are leaks, not facts. Whatever it is, it's likely to be large. The PS5's 1 TB model gives you roughly 850 GB of usable space, which is plenty. The cheapest Xbox Series S has 512 GB, of which only about 364 GB is usable, so a few big games will fill it quickly.
• No subscription needed. GTA 6 launches as a single-player game and is listed for offline play, so you don't need PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass to play it. It also isn't included in Game Pass, according to the Xbox Store's own listing.
• Region on Xbox. Rockstar says PS5 codes only work on an account from the same region. Reports citing Rockstar say Xbox codes aren't locked the same way, but I couldn't confirm that from Rockstar directly, so buy an Indian code either way.

If you already own a console

• PS4 or Xbox One: you can't play GTA 6. It's PS5 and Xbox Series X and S only.
• PS5 (any model): you're set. Pick an edition and pre-order.
• Original 2020 PS5 Digital Edition: it plays GTA 6 fine, since GTA 6 is a download anyway. It just can't ever use discs.
• Gaming PC: there's no PC release date. Rockstar has historically brought GTA games to PC later.

Questions people ask

Which console is best for GTA 6?

On paper, the PS5 Pro, since it's the only console with an announced enhancement for the game. In India, where the Pro isn't officially sold, the best practical choice is a standard PS5, and for GTA 6 alone the Digital Edition.

Will GTA 6 run at 60fps on PS5 Pro?

Probably not. Rockstar's head of development reportedly said in August 2026 that console versions run at 30fps, and Digital Foundry called 60fps extremely unlikely on console. A 40fps mode on PS5 Pro has been suggested by analysts, not announced.

Is GTA 6 coming to PS4?

No. PlayStation India's page says it is playable on PS5 consoles only. It isn't coming to Xbox One either.

Is GTA 6 on PC?

Not at launch. No PC release date has been announced.

Do I need the disc version of the PS5 for GTA 6?

No. GTA 6's boxed copy is a download code, so it plays the same on the Digital Edition. The disc drive only helps with other games on disc.

Do I need PS Plus or Game Pass to play GTA 6?

No. GTA 6 is a single-player game at launch and is listed for offline play, so it doesn't need a subscription on either console. It isn't part of Xbox Game Pass either.

Is the PS5 Pro available in India?

Not officially. Sony hasn't launched it here, so the only way to get one is an import without an Indian warranty.

Summing up

• Just GTA 6? PS5 Digital Edition, ₹64,990.
• GTA 6 plus lots of used discs? PS5 with a disc drive, ₹69,990. It pays back on resale.
• PS5 Pro? Not officially sold here, and its GTA 6 gain is unknown. Skip the import.
• Xbox? Fine if you can find a Series X from an authorised seller. Hard to find in October.
• Expect 30fps on every console, by Rockstar's own reported account.
