GTA 6 PS5 price in India, and why there's no disc

If you were planning to buy GTA 6 on disc, finish it in a month and sell it back like every other big game, I have bad news.

There is no disc. The boxed PS5 copy of GTA 6 holds a download code, and once that code is redeemed it belongs to your PlayStation account. You can't sell it back to Dacby, GameLoot, GameNation or Console Garage, because there's nothing physical to sell.

That changes the maths more than the price does.

What we know so far

Here's everything confirmed by Rockstar, PlayStation India or a retailer listing, as of 4 October 2026, when I checked.

The date has moved twice already. Rockstar first said fall 2025, then on 2 May 2025 moved it to 26 May 2026, then on 6 November 2025 moved it again to 19 November 2026. Since then it has held, including when pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026.

There's no disc in the box

Rockstar confirmed it when pre-orders opened in June 2026: physical copies contain a code that you redeem to download the game, and a disc is not included.

So, what does that actually change?

Three things, and none of them are good for anyone who trades games.

1. No used copies. A used GTA 6 box after launch is a box with a redeemed code inside. It's worth nothing. If anyone offers you a "pre-owned GTA 6 disc", walk away.
2. No trade-in. Every store we track buys back PS5 discs. None can buy back a code that's already tied to your account.
3. No lending. You can't hand the disc to a friend after you finish. The game stays on your account.

Reports in June suggested a disc might follow a few months after launch. That was later described as a misreading, and one industry source told The Hollywood Reporter there were no plans for discs at launch or after. I'd treat a GTA 6 disc as something that isn't coming until Rockstar says otherwise.

Where to buy it in India

On 4 October, Flipkart's boxed code was the cheapest way in, ₹600 under the PlayStation Store price. Prices on retailer listings change, so check on the day.

The digital pre-order has one extra: buy it on the PlayStation Store before 20 November and you get one month of GTA+. Read the small print, though. GTA+ is Rockstar's membership for GTA Online, the online mode of GTA 5, so it adds nothing inside GTA 6, and it renews at ₹624 a month unless you cancel. What GTA 6 really costs to play

This is the part that stings.

On DiscScout, a game's cost to play is what you pay for a used disc minus what a store pays you back when you're done. On 3 October 2026 the typical PS5 game cost ₹699 to play that way. Some big releases cost far less: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced came to ₹199 and Kingdom Come Deliverance II to ₹299.

GTA 6 can't be bought used and can't be sold back. Its cost to play is the full price.

Put another way, GTA 6 costs about as much to play as eight typical used games bought and sold back. It may well be worth it. Just go in knowing that none of that money is coming back.

Paying for it with the discs you already own

What you can do is turn the discs on your shelf into most of the price. All four stores we track pay cash for PS5 discs, and the best offer is often at a different store from the one you'd guess.

A few things I'd do between now and launch:

1. Sell your newest games first. A disc that came out this year fetches the most, and it only falls from here. How fast a PS5 game loses resale value has the numbers.
2. Check each game's page. The best cash offer for the same disc can differ by ₹500 to ₹1,000 between stores. On 3 October, Console Garage paid ₹3,800 for Marvel's Wolverine while Dacby paid ₹2,000.
3. Don't wait for November. Lots of people will have the same idea in the weeks before launch. Stores pay what they think they can resell for, and a flood of trade-ins doesn't help that.

What about GTA 5?

GTA 5 on PS5 is still sold on disc, and it's still traded. Search for it on the games list to see what it costs and what it fetches today. Just don't expect much for it once GTA 6 is out.

Is this the start of something bigger?

Yes. On 1 July 2026, PlayStation announced that it will stop producing discs for all new games released on PlayStation from January 2028. Games released on disc before then aren't affected, and PlayStation India says those discs can still be played on the console.

When does GTA 6 come out in India?

On 19 November 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Digital copies and redeemed codes can pre-load from midnight local time on 12 November.

How much is GTA 6 in India?

₹5,999 for the Standard Edition and ₹7,499 for the Ultimate Edition on the PlayStation Store. On 4 October 2026, Flipkart listed the boxed Standard Edition code at ₹5,399.

Is there a GTA 6 disc for PS5?

No. Rockstar has confirmed the boxed copy contains a download code and no disc. Only the Standard Edition comes boxed. The Ultimate Edition is digital only.

Can I sell GTA 6 after I finish it?

No. A redeemed code is tied to your PlayStation account, so there's nothing to sell, and no store we track buys back codes or digital games.

Will GTA 6 work on PS4?

No. PlayStation India's page says it is playable on PS5 consoles only.

Can I buy a cheaper GTA 6 code from abroad?

It's risky. Rockstar says PS5 codes only work on an account from the same region as the code. The Indian box's code covers India, most of the EU, Turkey, Ukraine, Israel and South Africa, but not the UK, the US, the UAE or Saudi Arabia. Buy a code sold for India if your account is Indian.

Does GTA 6 have online multiplayer?

Not at launch, as far as anyone has confirmed. PlayStation India's page describes it as a single-player experience, and Rockstar hasn't announced an online mode.
