How fast do PS5 games lose resale value in India?
A new game's trade-in value doesn't drift down. It drops, hard, in the first few weeks, and then barely moves for years. Here are the numbers, and what they mean for when you sell.

Marvel's Wolverine came out on 15 September 2026. Five days later, on 20 September, GameLoot was offering ₹3,800 in cash for a used disc. Nine days after that, it was offering ₹2,950.
Dacby fell further. It offered ₹3,600 on 21 September and ₹2,000 on 2 October.
If you finished Wolverine in a fortnight and then waited one more week to sell it, that week cost you somewhere between ₹500 and ₹1,600. That's what this guide is about.
How I measured this
DiscScout reads every PS5 price at Dacby, GameLoot, GameNation and Console Garage once a day, both what they sell for and what they pay. That gives two kinds of evidence.
- Daily readings for new releases. We've read prices every morning since 20 September 2026, so for games released in August and September, I can show what happened to their trade-in value week by week.
- A snapshot across five years of releases. For 82 PS5 games released between November 2020 and September 2026, I took the release date and lined up today's used price and best cash offer by how long each game has been out. For 24 of them, the price in India at launch is confirmed, so I can also show what share of that is left.
By launch price I mean the standard edition's price in India when the game came out, which for most games is the PlayStation Store price. A new disc usually lists at the same price or ₹200 to ₹500 more, so the shares below flatter the disc a little, not the other way round.
The caveat is the obvious one. A snapshot isn't one game followed for five years, and two weeks of daily readings isn't a year. Together, though, they tell a very consistent story.
The first few weeks: the steepest fall
Here's every reading we have for Marvel's Wolverine's cash offer, from five days after launch:
| Store | First reading | Latest reading | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| GameLoot | ₹3,800 on 20 Sep | ₹2,950 on 29 Sep | −₹850 (−22%) |
| Dacby | ₹3,600 on 21 Sep | ₹2,000 on 2 Oct | −₹1,600 (−44%) |
| GameNation | ₹3,400 on 20 Sep | ₹2,900 on 29 Sep | −₹500 (−15%) |
| Console Garage | ₹3,800 on 20 Sep | ₹3,800, unchanged | ₹0 |
GameLoot didn't cut once. It cut six times in nine days, ₹50 to ₹200 at a time: ₹3,800, ₹3,600, ₹3,500, ₹3,350, ₹3,200, ₹3,150, ₹2,950.
The used price followed. GameLoot sold a used Wolverine disc for ₹5,299 on 22 September and ₹4,599 on 2 October. Dacby dropped its used price from ₹5,499 to ₹3,999 the same day it cut its buy-back offer, 2 October.
So why does it fall so fast?
Because everyone finishes a big new game at about the same time. Two weeks after launch, a store that was getting a few Wolverine discs a day is suddenly getting dozens, and it lowers its offer until the flow matches what it can resell. It's supply and demand, made visible one morning at a time.
The same pattern showed up on other recent releases:
- The Blood of Dawnwalker, released 3 September. GameLoot's used price went from ₹5,699 on 20 September to ₹4,999 on 1 October, and its cash offer from ₹4,000 to ₹3,800.
- Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, released 9 July. Even at ten weeks old, GameLoot's cash offer slipped from ₹2,700 to ₹2,500 in eight days, and GameNation's from ₹2,650 to ₹2,450.
- Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, released 6 August. GameLoot's used price fell from ₹3,799 to ₹3,399 in six days.
Notice Console Garage in the Wolverine table. It held its offer at ₹3,800 the whole time, which made it the best place to sell by a wide margin by the end of September. When a new game is falling everywhere, the store that hasn't moved yet is where you want to be.
The first year and after: a slow slide
Once the launch rush is over, the fall slows right down. This panel lines up every dated game a store prices today by how long it's been out:
What a disc is worth, by how long it has been out
Live from the stores' prices, read 13 Oct 2026
| Out for | Games | Used | Cash | Of launch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 2 months | 6 | ₹4,699 | ₹3,650 | 70% of 3 |
| 2 to 5 months | 6 | ₹3,249 | ₹2,850 | 69% of 1 |
| 6 to 11 months | 11 | ₹3,499 | ₹2,550 | 50% of 3 |
| 1 to 2 years | 24 | ₹2,899 | ₹2,250 | 44% of 6 |
| 2 to 3 years | 17 | ₹2,799 | ₹1,800 | 48% of 5 |
| 3 years and more | 18 | ₹2,150 | ₹1,500 | 36% of 6 |
Typical figures for the standard disc, over every dated game a store prices. Used is what the cheapest store charges, cash the best offer for yours. The last column is cash as a share of launch price, over the games whose launch price in India is confirmed.
On the prices read on 3 October 2026, when I wrote this, the typical cash offer was:
- ₹3,800 for a game under two months old, about 73% of its launch price.
- ₹3,200 at two to five months.
- ₹2,400 at six to eleven months, about 46% of launch.
- ₹2,100 at one to two years, about 44%.
- ₹1,650 at two to three years, also about 44%.
- ₹1,550 at three years and more, about 34%.
The launch-price shares come from the games whose launch price is confirmed, between one and six of them in each band, so read them as a rough guide rather than an exact figure.
The big step is between the first few months and the second half of the first year. After that, a typical game's cash offer drops by only a few hundred rupees a year.
I'd expected a smooth curve. It's closer to a cliff followed by a plateau.
Here's the same thing game by game, for the 24 games whose launch price in India is confirmed:

Out for is in whole months. Launch is the standard edition's price in India when the game came out. Used is the cheapest disc at any of the stores, and cash the best offer for yours, with its share of the launch price.
Which games hold their value
The averages hide a big spread. On 3 October:
- Silent Hill f was a year old and still fetched ₹3,600 in cash, 75% of its ₹4,799 launch price. That's the best result of any game with a known launch price.
- Ghost of Yotei was exactly a year old and fetched ₹2,900, 58% of its ₹4,999 launch price.
- Kingdom Come Deliverance II was 20 months old and fetched ₹3,300 in cash. That's one reason it costs so little to play.
- Black Myth Wukong fetched ₹4,400 in cash, the highest of any game in this list, nearly two years after its PS5 disc came out.
- Call of Duty Modern Warfare III fetched ₹2,800 at almost three years old, more than many games from this year.
The pattern: single-player games people still talk about, and games with a long multiplayer life, hold up. So do discs that were hard to get when they came out.
Which games lose it fastest
Sports games, by a distance. Every September, a new edition makes last year's one far less wanted.
| Game | Out for | Launch price | Cash on 3 Oct | Share left |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EA Sports FC 27 | Under a month | ₹5,999 | ₹4,350 | 73% |
| EA Sports FC 26 | 12 months | ₹4,999 | ₹1,800 | 36% |
| EA Sports FC 25 | 24 months | ₹4,999 | ₹1,200 | 24% |
| WWE 2K26 | 6 months | ₹4,999 | ₹2,700 | 54% |
| WWE 2K25 | 18 months | ₹4,999 | ₹1,600 | 32% |
| WWE 2K24 | 30 months | ₹5,499 | ₹1,100 | 20% |
FC 26 lost half of what was left the moment FC 27 arrived. If you play FIFA or WWE every year, the time to sell last year's edition is before the new one comes out, not after.
What this means for you
If you're selling
- Sell the week you finish. In a new release's first weeks, some stores cut their offer by ₹50 to ₹200 almost every day. After a year, waiting costs far less, so don't rush to sell an old game. Rush to sell a new one.
- Check every store, every time. On 2 October, the best and worst cash offers for Wolverine were ₹1,800 apart: ₹3,800 at Console Garage, ₹2,000 at Dacby. The game's own page here shows every store.
- Sell sports games before the next edition. That means August, not October.
For where to send your discs, read where to sell used PS5 games in India.
If you're buying
- Wait a few weeks for a new release, if you can. Used prices fall with buy-back prices. GameLoot's used Wolverine went from ₹5,299 to ₹4,599 in ten days, and Dacby's reached ₹3,999 by 2 October. A new Wolverine disc lists at ₹5,499.
- Buy games that hold their value. A game that still fetches 70% after a year costs you far less to own than one that drops to 35%. That's the idea behind cost to play.
What about the end of discs?
On 1 July 2026, PlayStation announced that from January 2028, new games on PlayStation will be released digitally only. Games already out on disc, or released on disc before then, aren't affected, and PlayStation India says those discs will keep working on the console.
Will that make today's discs more valuable, or less? Honestly, nobody knows yet. Fewer new discs might keep used prices up. Fewer people buying discs at all might push them down. I'll update this guide when there's real data. For now, I'd sell based on the curve above, not on a guess about 2028. There's more on this in PS5 disc vs digital in India.
Questions people ask
How much value does a PS5 game lose after launch in India?
On the prices read on 3 October 2026, games under two months old fetched about 73% of their launch price in cash, games six to eleven months old about 46%, and games over three years old about 34%. The biggest single drop is in the first few weeks.
When is the best time to sell a PS5 game?
As soon as you finish it, especially if it's new. Marvel's Wolverine's cash offer at GameLoot fell from ₹3,800 to ₹2,950 in nine days in September 2026. For older games the fall is much slower, so timing matters less.
Which PS5 games hold their value best?
On 3 October 2026, Silent Hill f still fetched 75% of its launch price after a year, and Ghost of Yotei 58%. Kingdom Come Deliverance II, Black Myth Wukong and Call of Duty Modern Warfare III also fetched high cash offers for their age.
Do sports games lose value faster?
Yes. EA Sports FC 26 fetched 36% of its launch price a year after release, and FC 25 24% after two years. WWE 2K24 fetched 20% after two and a half years. Each new edition makes the last one much less wanted.
Should I buy a new PS5 game used right after launch?
Only if you can't wait. Used prices fall quickly in the first weeks. If you can hold off a month, the same disc is usually several hundred rupees cheaper.
Summing up
- The first weeks cost the most. Marvel's Wolverine lost 15% to 44% of its cash value within two weeks at three of the stores we track.
- After the first year, the slide is slow. Typical cash offers fell from about ₹2,400 to about ₹1,550 between year one and year three.
- Sports games fall off a cliff every September.
- Sell new games fast, and to whichever store hasn't cut its price yet.
