Store credit vs cash: what to take when you sell

Every store that offers credit shows it as the bigger number. It always is. Whether it's worth more depends on one thing: what that store charges for the game you want next.

A balance scale with plain banknotes on one pan and a taller stack of store-credit tokens on the other.

When you sell a disc to Dacby, GameLoot or GameNation, you get two prices: cash, and a bigger number in store credit. On 3 October 2026, I checked every PS5 disc all three quote both ways, 916 offers in total. Credit was higher on every single one.

So credit is always the better deal? Not quite. Credit is only worth what it buys, and it only buys things at one store, at that store's prices.

How much more credit is worth

This panel is worked out from every store's live prices every morning. The solid bar is the cash offer. The paler stretch is what taking credit adds.

How much more credit is worth than cash

Live from the stores' prices, read 12 Oct 2026

GameLoot

+17%about ₹250 a disc

6% to 50% across 438 discs. Credit beat cash on 100% of them.

GameNation

+13%about ₹150 a disc

7% to 52% across 216 discs. Credit beat cash on 100% of them.

Dacby

+13%about ₹200 a disc

0% to 50% across 271 discs. Credit beat cash on 99% of them.

Console Garage quotes one price only, so there is nothing to compare.

On 3 October, the typical extra was ₹250 a disc at GameLoot, ₹200 at Dacby and ₹150 at GameNation.

The extra shrinks as the disc gets pricier

All three add something close to a flat amount, not a percentage. GameLoot, for example, adds ₹250 on most titles whether the cash offer is ₹900 or ₹4,500. So credit looks generous on cheap discs and modest on expensive ones.

Cash offerDacbyGameLootGameNation
Under ₹1,000+12.5%+21.4%+16.7%
₹1,000 to ₹2,000+14.3%+19.2%+12.5%
₹2,000 to ₹3,000+8.7%+10.9%+10.7%
₹3,000 and up+9.1%+7.1%+8.1%

Median credit premium by cash offer, on the prices read on 3 October 2026.

On a ₹4,500 disc, GameLoot's credit adds about 5.6%. On a ₹500 disc it can add 50%. If you're trading in one expensive new release, the credit bonus is smaller than it looks on the sell page.

The catch: credit spends at one store

Here's the deal. Store credit is money you can only spend at the store that gave it, on its stock, at its prices. If that store charges ₹300 more than the next store for the game you want, your ₹250 of extra credit is gone and then some.

So the real question is how often each store is the cheapest place to buy. On 3 October, among PS5 discs that at least two stores had in stock:

StoreCheapest onTypical extra over the cheapestCredit premiumWhat's left, roughly
GameLoot31 of 42+1.9%+16.7%about +15%
Dacby7 of 15+5.9%+12.5%about +7%
GameNation13 of 48+9.5%+13.3%about +4%

The "extra" is how much more each store charged, on average, than the cheapest store for the same disc. "What's left" is the credit premium minus that extra. It's a rough guide, not a promise for any one game.

As you can see in the table, GameLoot's credit holds up best. It adds the most on top of cash, and GameLoot is also the cheapest of the stores on most discs it shares with others. GameNation's credit premium is real, but its shelf prices are often high enough to eat most of it.

And Dacby?

Dacby's coins are worth more than any other store's credit. They beat the best cash offer from any other store on 211 of 235 discs. The problem is spending them. On 3 October, Dacby had 24 PS5 discs in stock, against 64 at GameLoot and 60 at GameNation. Dacby's coins do work on anything it sells, including consoles, accessories and pre-orders, so they're far more useful if you want something other than a used disc.

A worked example

Say you've finished Ghost of Yotei and want Resident Evil Requiem next. Here's how each store's option came out on 3 October:

RouteYou get for Ghost of YoteiRequiem costsYou pay on top
Cash from Dacby, buy at GameLoot₹2,900 cash₹3,699₹799
Credit at GameLoot, buy at GameLoot₹3,050 credit₹3,699₹649
Credit at GameNation, buy at GameNation₹2,700 credit₹4,149₹1,449
Coins at Dacby₹3,100 coinsNot in stock at DacbyCan't buy it

GameLoot credit wins by ₹150, because GameLoot is both a good buyer and the cheapest seller of Requiem. GameNation's credit route costs ₹800 more than the best option, even though it gives you "more" than its own cash offer. And Dacby's coins, the biggest number on the table, can't buy the game at all that day.

That's the whole guide in one table. The biggest credit number isn't the best deal. The best deal is the credit that buys your next game cheapest.

Console Garage quotes a single buy-back price for each disc, so there's no credit choice to make there. See Console Garage's page for its offers.

When to take credit

  • Your next game is in stock at that store now, and its price is within a couple of hundred rupees of the cheapest anywhere.
  • You're trading in several discs for one big purchase at the same store, like a new release, a console or a controller.
  • It's GameLoot, and you buy from GameLoot anyway. Of the three, its credit loses the least to shelf prices.

When to take cash

  • You don't know what you'll buy next. Credit that sits in a wallet for six months is credit you might never use well.
  • The game you want is cheaper somewhere else. Sell for cash to whoever pays most, and buy from whoever charges least. That's how most of the cheapest costs to play work out.
  • You're saving for something none of them sell well, like GTA 6, whose boxed copy is a download code. Flipkart had it cheaper than the PlayStation Store on 4 October. See GTA 6 in India.
  • You might want your money back. Credit can't be withdrawn, and a refund on something you bought with credit goes back to credit.

How DiscScout counts credit

By default, every cost on DiscScout counts cash only, because cash spends anywhere. If you do take credit, open the store picker in the top bar and tick the box to count it. Every price and every cost to play on the site is then worked out with each store's better offer, cash or credit.

Questions people ask

Is store credit worth more than cash?

On paper, always: on 3 October 2026, every credit offer at Dacby, GameLoot and GameNation was higher than the same store's cash offer. In practice, only if that store sells your next game at a competitive price.

Which store gives the most extra for credit?

GameLoot, with a median 16.7% over cash, against 13.3% at GameNation and 12.5% at Dacby. Dacby's coins are still the biggest number in rupees on most discs, because Dacby's cash offer starts higher.

Can I convert store credit back to cash?

No. Dacby, GameLoot and GameNation all say their credit can't be withdrawn or transferred.

Does store credit expire?

Not at any of the three. Dacby, GameLoot and GameNation all say their credit has no expiry.

Does Console Garage offer store credit?

Console Garage quotes one buy-back price per disc, with no separate credit price.

Summing up

  • Credit is always bigger. On 3 October, it was higher than cash on every disc at every store that offers it.
  • It's only better at the store you'll buy from. Check that store's price for your next game first.
  • GameLoot's credit holds its value best. High premium, and usually the cheapest shelf.
  • Not sure what's next? Take the cash, from whichever store pays the most.
